There are so many reasons to love this dish; my top reason is its tasty tenderness.

Ingredients you need
For dinner for two people, here is the list of ingredients you’ll need. Just a note the better the fat marbling is running through your steaks, the better the flavor and tenderness.
- 2 thick-cut beef steaks, cut of your choice
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp black pepper, ground
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp coriander, ground
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 TBS canola or olive oil
- ½ cup red wine
- 1 cup beef broth
- Extra salt and pepper
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sliced white onion
How to Cook Steak in the Instant Pot (step by step)
You will lose your mind when you see how easy this steak is to make! Here are the steps for my go-to Instant Pot steak.
Step 1:
Mix all the spices and seasonings in a bowl with a spoon. Dry your steaks with a piece of kitchen paper and rub the seasoning onto the steaks. They should be coated evenly.
Step 2:
Turn the Instant Pot onto the sauté setting and add in the oil.
Step 3:
Sear the steaks inside the pot when the oil is hot for roughly 2 minutes on each side.
Step 4:
Remove the steaks and set them aside. Add the onions and fry them for 3-4 minutes or until they are golden and soft. Add the wine and deglaze. This is basically a fancy way of saying you should scrape all the bits of sediment from the sides and let it mix in with the wine. This is the beginning of the sauce.
Once the wine has cooked for a minute or so, press the cancel button.
Step 5:
Add the beef broth to the pot and season with the extra salt and pepper. Pop the steaks into the sauce and seal the lid. Cook on high for 2-5 minutes. Timing depends on the thickness of your steak. Select Quick pressure when the time is up.
Step 6:
When the timer goes off, turn the valve to venting. Release the pressure! The steaks should be left to “rest” for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This step will allow the meat to lock in its juices and keep it tender. Cutting the steak up too soon will dry it out a bit. Not worth the risk if you ask me.
Step 7:
Just before you’re ready to serve, press sauté. Add in the heavy cream and allow the sauce to thicken. You’re going to want to taste and check whether to add in a little extra salt or not. Serve and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks
- Buy the best quality meat that you can. Excellent quality meat shows up in the taste and texture.
- The meat should be room temperature and not ice cold when you put it into the pot. Cold meat is likely to toughen up.
- Rest the meat for 5 minutes (at least) before cutting it to retain the juiciness.
- Season well with salt and pepper. Don’t skimp on the seasoning.
What to serve with steak
Oh my gosh, there are so many options. Here are my favorites:
- Mashed potatoes and steamed green beans with crumbed feta cheese
- Boiled baby potatoes with grilled asparagus
- A huge Greek salad and a baked sweet potato
- Roasted chickpeas and grated carrot and beetroot salad

How to store leftover steak
The most important thing to point out here is that your steak must be cold, or at least room temperature, before storing it in the fridge. This will hinder the chances of any bacterial growth in the steak.
Store your meat in a sealed glass (preferable) or plastic container. The reason why glass is preferable is that plastic is porous and can absorb the flavors of the meat.
Can frozen steak be cooked in the Instant Pot?
It can technically be, and if you are seriously time-strapped. It’s always better to allow the meat to thaw before cooking it.
FAQ
What is steak?
It’s a cut of meat from the hindquarters of a beef cow. There are so many ways you can cook steak – it can be barbecued or cooked directly under the grill element in your oven.
You can poach it in a simmering sauce or pan-fry it. And, of course…you can cook it in an Instant Pot!
Can you overcook steak in Instant Pot?
Yes! It’s totally possible! Keep the cooking time under 12 minutes to be safe. There’s no going back once it’s overcooked.

Can a pressure cooker make steak tender?
Yes, it can. A pressure cooker is one of the most likely ways of cooking a steak and keeping it nice and tender. The least likely cooking method to get tender meat is boiling it!
What happens if you overcook steak?
Well, let’s just say that chewing an overcooked steak is not a pleasant experience, especially if you have TMJ issues. It’s dry, bland, HARD, and extremely difficult to eat.
