Liquid Marijuana Shot Recipe

If you’re into making fun cocktails, this liquid marijuana shot is something yum to make up over a weekend. Or, like, whenever.

It’s a fruity and sweet kind of shot and is great for game nights or parties. You can make this up in a flash, especially if you have the ingredients lying around.

This is a great shot if you have a “green” themed event coming up, like St Patrick’s Day or if your favorite sports team wears green!

What is a liquid marijuana shot?

A liquid marijuana shot is an alcoholic shot made with a blend of tropical-flavored ingredients. Despite the name, it doesn’t actually contain any marijuana or THC. Its name purely reflects its vibrant color.

This drink has a fun sweet and sour flavor, reflecting the ingredients, and has a summery feel to it. The elements have that “tastes like candy” thing going on.

Please remember to drink and host responsibly, as this drink does contain alcohol.

Ingredients you’ll need 

If you’re used to mixing drinks and cocktails, this recipe will feel like a breeze for you. The formula is a blend of different ingredients that are regarded as easy to find in a grocery store or liquor store at least.

There isn’t much room for variation or substitutions in this recipe so give yourself a chance to get hold of the correct ingredients in time for your event. I love having my drinks cupboard well-stocked and ready to roll when it comes to making cocktails.

Anyway, here are all the ingredients that you’ll need:

• 1 oz melon liqueur
• 1 oz coconut rum
• 1 oz melon blue curacao
• 1 oz spiced rum
• 2 oz pineapple juice
• 1 ½ TBS sugar
• 1 oz lemon juice
• 1 cup of ice

I don’t usually add a list of supplies, but these are specific to cocktail making, and I find them really helpful in this process:

• Cocktail shaker
• A jigger
• 4 shot glasses

How to make a liquid marijuana shot 

I know you’re ready to get cracking on this recipe, so let’s not mess about it. This is an easy to whip together and fun party drink, and your friends will be googly-eyed over them when they see you handing them out.

You can totally double or triple this recipe. This particular recipe makes 4 shots.

Anyway, let’s get to it:

Step 1:

Using a jigger or whatever your measuring cup of choice is, measure out the melon liqueur, coconut rum, melon blue curacao, spiced rum, pineapple juice, and lemon juice. 

Pour them into the vessel you are going to shake them in. As mentioned earlier, I use a cocktail shaker.

Step 2:

Add in the sugar and give the mixture a little stir to get all the ingredients swirled up together. Stir it all until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 3:

Add the ice to the mixture, seal your cocktail shaker or container and shake for a good minute. Enjoy your mini arm and wrist workout.

Step 4:

After about a minute, pour your drink through the cocktail shaker or through a sieve to remove the ice. 

It’s essential to get the drink off the ice as quickly as you can so that the ice doesn’t melt. This will prevent the drink from becoming diluted.

How to turn liquid marijuana shots into cocktails

This is a quick little switch-up. Add some ice to your favorite cocktail glasses and pour over the shot. Add sparkling water, Sprite, soda, or lemonade to the drink. 

Give it a good swizzle, and you have a tasty little cocktail.

How to store liquid marijuana shots

You can make this up in advance and store the mix for 2-3 days. The only step you’ll skip is the part where you shake the mixture up with ice. This can be done when you’re ready to serve the drink.

Store the mix in a jar with a lid in the fridge. If you want to prepare a little longer in advance, then mix up only the alcoholic ingredients only and store that mixture. 

Add the fresh ingredients like the pineapple and lemon juice just before serving.

How to make liquid marijuana jello shots?

I follow a slightly different road when I make liquid marijuana jello shots. Here is what you’ll need:

• 1 oz melon liqueur
• 1 oz coconut rum
• 1 oz melon blue curacao
• 1 oz spiced rum
• 8 oz boiling water
• 3 oz pineapple Jello

Here are the steps I take to make these shots:

Step 1:

Add the Jello to the boiling water and stir until combined and all the granules have dissolved. Leave this mixture to cool.

Step 2:

Once the mixture has cooled, add the melon liqueur, the coconut rum, the spiced rum, and the melon blue curacao. Stir to combine all the elements.

Step 3:

Pour the liquid into your shot glasses or whatever mini containers you’re going for. Set them in the refrigerator for a few hours until set.

Thinking up ways to serve jello shots can be super fun and a way to link the drink/jello treat to a theme. Here are a couple of fun ideas:

• In a syringe: this is a fun option for Halloween for the adults, of course.
• Inside a hollowed-out lime or lemon shell.
• Inside a mini cupcake wrapper.
• Inside little glass jars with lids.
